In 1819, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama, all declared independence from Spain. They formed an alliance which became a country called “Gran Colombia”. Later, Venezuela and Ecuador separated in 1830.

The country has the tallest palm trees in the world. Some measure up to 60 meters.
Caño Cristales is a Colombian river that has 5 different colors. It is a natural wonder and an explosion of spectrums. The colors are yellow, green, blue, red and black.
This in turn opened the door for new plant species. Simultaneously, these are native plant types that live on the riverbed and are endemic to Colombia.
