St. George’s Church or the Church of San Giorgio (Chiesa di San Giorgio) is a church located in Portofino. The Church was built in the Romanesque style in 1154.

During World War II, the Church was completely destroyed by a bomb. Nevertheless, Italy has restored it afterwards. In fact, today you can find inside the relics of St. George, the patron saint of Portofino. The sailors brought it after returning from the Crusades. Correspondingly, from the outside you can enjoy an astonishing view of the bay and the colorful village surrounding it.

You might think that Portofino is only a picturesque village with beaches, fancy restaurants and fancier shops. On the contrary, there is a Regional Park created in 1935 for true nature lovers.

Parco Naturale Regionale di Portofino is a park that extends along both sides of the promontory of Portofino. This park is rich with biodiversity, a combination of rural and maritime cultures. Not to mention the different plant species and wildlife. Therefore, hiking here is absolutely one of the things you should be doing when visiting Portofino.

Christ of the Abyss (Cristo degli Abissi) is a huge bronze statue, submerged in the waters of San Fruttuoso di Camogli. This is a must do when in Portofino.

Professional divers placed the statue underwater on the 22nd of August 1954. Since then, it has managed to become a perfect diving spot. This location became very popular  and famous among divers from around the world.

By and large, the statue is meant as a reference point for divers in distress and it has become a symbol for all scuba divers. This idea came to honor the Italian Scuba diver Dario Gonzatti who lost his life during testing of diving equipment.

The Brown Castle or Castello Brown is a lovely castle tucked on top of a hill. This ancient fortress is standing since the 15th century to defense the Tigullio Gulf from pirates and other rivals. It saved the village from the Venetians’ fleet in 1435. Additionally, it saw several rebirths and extensions throughout the centuries.

Today, amazing gardens surround the Castle and are full with roses and pergolas. Tourists and visitors alike are welcome to explore and visit the castle. In addition, it hosts many cultural and entertainment events throughout the year.
