Mysterious UFO Houses in Sanzhi, Taiwan

UFO houses in Sanzhi District, Taiwan consititute a bizarre site of extraterrestrial-looking objects.

The site construction started in 1978 but was never completed. Many stories arose to solve the mystery of the abandoned site with its odd looking houses.

The Idea Behind the UFO Project in Taiwan

It was the late 60s and early 70s when some people started to fantasize UFOs as being real. Drawn from this conviction, the project plan initiated. Then construction works began in the late 70s, but quickly hauled in 1980.

The site overlooks the East China Sea as it was a beach resort. Many American veterans serving in East Asia back then, were eagerly waiting to buy their vacation homes there.

Finnish architect Matti Suuronen designed the Future structures and a versatile plan took shape. These homes, were not ordinary vacation places, but rather a journey to outer-space, metaphorically speaking.

The site locality was a perfect simulation for UFOs landing. At the same time, the houses’ designs used the flying saucer architectural mechanism. The entrances and windows were also crafted to transport the owner on a different kind of journey.

Shortly after construction began, many bizarre incidents took place. Namely, numerous car accidents were reported and many suicides among construction workers started to emerge. All of these puzzling events started to evoke fear among workers.

Years later, many theories started looming around the peculiar site. Many pro-chinese mythology advocates claimed they know the answer. It lies in the ominous act of bisecting the Chinese Dragon which became the reason behind this misfortune. The Chinese culture greatly admires the spiritual Dragon figure. Therefore, any act of destroying it shall bring years of agony against perpetrators.

Another audience claimed that the site was the final resting place of Dutch martyrs. The construction work disturbed the former burial ground of these soldiers…

The Real Reason of Abandonment of the UFO Site in Taiwan

The last sensible theory supports a more reasonable claim. In the early 80s a financial crisis was on the horizon and it hit Asia and particularly Taiwan’s economy. As a result, many investors became exceptionally cautious on spending their funds in risky real estate projects.

Moreoever, many analysts claimed that the houses would not sell, as they are non-functional on the long run. The site needed elaborate maintenance, since the round shaped houses were made of metal. This material easily rusted on the windy cliffs next to the sea.

Moreover, purchasers were keen on buying residential houses near the city center. Sanzhi is considered a rural development. Consequently they shied away from buying a UFO house that would cost a fortune in a remote area.

All of these factors labeled the site as the “ruins of the future”. Today many sci-fi tourists visit the place looking for signs of thrilling ghosts’ shadows walking in the rusting houses.

On the other hand, adventurous investors are looking to dismantle the site and build a huge resort that will echo with laughs of joy in lieu of fear and agony.

Nonetheless, currently some brave hearts live in the site defying all haunting stories. According to the local community, these few families are benefiting from the abandoned site. As no one is claiming ownership due to the 40 years of financial crisis. Many developers went bankrupt and are unable to recover since then. Therefore, until a new developer gives the site its proper momentum, it will be worth a visit if you are in Taiwan.
