Who knew that everyone’s favorite chocolate spread Nutella had a World Day. That’s right, there is an actual day and it is celebrated every 5th of February each year. Namely, it is a holiday that celebrates everyone’s favorite spread.
Sara Russo, an American blogger living in Italy, made this initiative in 2007 to celebrate World Nutella Day with the theme: “Spreading the Love” globally.
More than 160 countries sell Nutella around the world. Therefore, statistically speaking, a jar of Nutella finds its way to a shopping cart every 2.5 seconds.
A Brief History about Nutella
Nutella is an Italian brand of sweetened hazelnut spread. Moreover, the Italian company Ferrero manufactures the product. Formerly, Pietro Ferrero found the company on May 14th. Initially, he was a pastry maker from Piedmont in Italy.
Pietro created a sweet paste made from hazelnuts, sugar and just a little of rare cocoa. Then, he shaped it into a loaf that could be sliced and served on bread. Later, he named it “Giandujot”.
Conversely, in 1951 he made a creamier version of this spread which he called “Supercrema”. Consequently, in 1964 Pietro Ferrero’s son, Michel improved the recipe and created the first-ever jar of a new hazelnut and cocoa cream. Additionally, he invented the name we’ve all come to love: “Nutella”.
