The History, Origins and Story of Tiramisu

Eaten and loved by many, the origins of the Italian dessert Tiramisù is intriguing. Its literal meaning is “pick me up” and there are several reasons for this naming. One of the most common theories for its name and history is very strange. It deserves some explanation as follows….

Espresso is the Main Reason for The Naming of Tiramisu

The strong  presence of espresso coffee in Tiramisu signifies the alarming feeling of being up and energized. Hence the naming of “pick me up” or sometimes “cheer me up!” is referred to when explaining the effects of this sweet.

It is believed that the recipe of Tiramisu was created in 1969 in Treviso, a town in the North Eastern part of Italy. It is a locality near Venice.

Le Beccherie Restaurant is Accredited with Tiramisu Creation

The chef at Le Beccherie restaurant invented it. Some others even trace its origin back to 1800s. Tiramisu claimed back then to have aphrodisiac effects that can solve many problems.

Moments in the History of Tiramisu

-Residents in San Francisco in the USA discovered the Tiramisu in the late 1990s and the rest is history. Today its famous worldwide not only in the USA.

-The world record for the largest Tiramisu is 3015 kilograms. It was prepared in Italy in Gemona del Friuli on the 25th of May 2015.

-It also made it to space, in a dehydrated form. The special Tiramisu was prepared by a famous chef from Turin for the Italian astronaut, Luca Parmitano. He celebrated his birthday in space while indulging on the Tiramisu prepared by chef Davide Scabin.
